Description

Balin’s Spiced Beef is a bold, aromatic slow-cooked dish featuring tender beef infused with warm spices and savory broth. This hearty recipe delivers deep flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture, making it perfect for cozy dinners, meal prep, and impressive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds beef chuck roast (1.3 kg)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth (480ml)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Spice Blend:

  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Season the Beef: Pat the beef dry and rub it evenly with the prepared spice blend.
  2. Sear for Extra Flavor: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the beef on all sides until nicely browned. This step adds deeper flavor.
  3. Prepare Slow Cooker Base: Place sliced onions and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Add Liquids: In a bowl, mix beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Pour the mixture into the slow cooker.
  5. Slow Cook: Place the seared beef on top of the onions. Cover and cook on low for 8–9 hours or high for 4–5 hours until the beef is fork-tender.
  6. Rest and Slice: Allow the beef to rest for 10–15 minutes before slicing or shredding. Serve with the flavorful cooking juices.

Notes

  • Sear the beef before slow cooking to enhance flavor.
  • Use well-marbled chuck roast for the most tender results.
  • Slice the beef against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • Store leftovers in the cooking liquid to keep the meat moist.
  • Freeze leftovers up to 3 months for easy future meals.
