Description

This Pear Bread is incredibly moist, warmly spiced, and filled with the natural sweetness of ripe pears. Made like classic quick breads, this recipe comes together without yeast and delivers a tender crumb that’s perfect for breakfast, cozy snacks, or homemade gifting. With cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and juicy grated pears, every slice tastes comforting and delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and grated ripe pears (about 2 medium-large pears)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Coarse sugar for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk granulated sugar, brown sugar, and oil until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well. Stir in vanilla.
  3. Add grated pears: Fold in the grated pears. Lightly drain excess liquid if pears are extremely juicy, but do not squeeze them dry.
  4. Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Combine mixtures: Gently fold dry ingredients into the wet batter. Do not overmix. Stir in nuts or dried fruit if using.
  6. Pour and bake: Transfer batter to the loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake 55–65 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool and slice: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool fully before slicing.

Notes

  • Use very ripe pears for maximum moisture and sweetness.
  • Grated pears distribute moisture more evenly than diced pears.
  • Do not overmix or the bread will become dense.
  • This bread tastes even better the next day as flavors develop.
  • Freezes well—wrap tightly and freeze up to 3 months.
